Mutkin Residential and Community Aged Care is a not-for-profit, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisation in Yarrabah, south-east of Cairns in Far North Queensland. It is a Commonwealth-subsidised and accredited residential aged care facility with 10 high-care beds in a purpose-built building and 16 low-care beds in a former hostel-style arrangement currently undergoing refurbishment. The home provides 24-hour care with onsite registered nursing staff around the clock, clinical leadership from a Clinical Nurse Manager, weekly local GP visits and contracted allied health services. Its model of care is culturally and spiritually sensitive, person-centred and trauma-aware, tailored to the needs of the Gunggandji people and the wider Yarrabah community. Mutkin also delivers community programmes including the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, Support at Home and NDIS supports.
