Kuba Natha Hostel

Lardil St, Wellesley Islands QLD 4892, Australia

4.5 ★ Google (2 reviews)

Kuba Natha Hostel on the Wellesley Islands in the Gulf of Carpentaria is an Aboriginal community hostel providing supported accommodation for Elders and community members from the Lardil, Yangkaal, Gangalidda, and Kaiadilt people of the Wellesley Islands group, including Mornington Island (Gununa). The hostel provides a culturally safe residential setting in this very remote island community, accessible only by air or boat from Normanton or Cairns, enabling Aboriginal Elders to remain on their sea Country rather than being flown to distant mainland facilities for aged care. The Wellesley Islands hold profound significance for the traditional custodians of this remarkable Gulf of Carpentaria archipelago, and the hostel is central to supporting ageing in community for these islands' Aboriginal peoples.
