Angurugu is a remote Aboriginal community where the Anindilyakwa language and culture remain strong, and caring for elders in their community on Groote Eylandt enables elderly Anindilyakwa people to remain connected to Country, family, and the extraordinary marine environment of the Gulf of Carpentaria. This service reflects the critical importance of localised elder care for remote island Aboriginal communities where travel to Darwin for care would mean permanent separation from Country.
